Divorce is a very trying time for any person and the fact that Minnesota is a no fault divorce state does not change that fact. Minnesota law requires the Court and parties use the best interests of the children to determine the initial custody of minor children. Minnesota law sets forth twelve factors to determine child custody and Kathleen can assist you determining how these factors apply to your particular situation. She is also experienced in the area of modification of custody.
In mediation, the parties reach a compromise solution to their family law situation with the assistance of a mediator. Kathleen is a Rule 114 qualified mediator and provides mediation services for parties representing themselves or for those represented by attorneys. She also uses her mediation background when she represents clients during mediation.
Minnesota follows an income shares model where the Court considers the gross income of both parties and the child support guidelines that reflect the needs of children as set forth by the legislature and allocates the child support based upon the number of overnights. Kathleen is familiar with the Minnesota child support guidelines and how they are applied in various situations.
